Borzoi Dog

borzoi dog pets hound wallpaper photo
Borzoi or Russian Wolfhound is often called hybrid Greyhound dog breeds and dog Arabic Russian long-haired shepherd. Borzoi dog is a dogs have a way a bit like a cat that has freedom of thought and independence of the natural. Borzoi keep themselves clean, they are difficult to control by their employers do not like most other dogs that make merka be difficult to train, but they have the loyalty and very friendly to people they already know well.
  • Appearance
Borzoi dogs have fur is warm, soft, and dense to adapt in cold temperature environments. Formerly Borzoi dogs are kept for hunting wolves, foxes, and rabbits, but is now usually used as pet dogs to accompany humans. Borzoi dog has the physical appearance of the skull is small, light hair color (usually white with shades of brown-yellowish), and dark eyes. Height: Dogs at least 28 inches (71cm) Bitches at least 26 inches (66cm)
Weight: Dogs 75-105 pounds (34-48kg) Bitches 60-90 pounds (27-41kg)
  • Temperament
Borzoi dog nature tend to be more docile and loyal to their owners than hundreds of years ago. Borzoi dog is also calm and discipline that fits into a pet at home. Borzoi can be friends with kids.
  • Grooming
The long silky coat is easy to groom. Brush regularly with a firm bristle brush, and dry shampoo when necessary. Bathing presents a problem with such a tall dog but shouldn't be required very often. Clip the hair between the toes to keep the feet comfortable and to stop them from spreading. This breed is a seasonally heavy shedder.
  • Health
Life expectancy is 7 to 10 years. Exceptional individuals have lived more than 14 years of age. Dogs that are physically fit and strong in their youth through middle age are more vigorous and healthier than older dogs, all other factors being equal. Cancer in the UK variety, followed by heart problems, appear to be the most common causes of premature death.
As with its native relative Hortaya Borzaya, the Borzoi is basically a very healthy breed. OCD, hip and elbow dysplasia have remained almost unknown, as were congenital eye and heart disease before 1970. However, in some countries today have raised some problems.
As with other very deep-chested breeds, gastric torsion most common serious health problems in the Borzoi. Also known as bloat, this life-threatening condition is believed to anatomical rather than strictly genetic in origin. Many Borzoi owners recommend feeding the dog instead of a podium place the food in container country, and to ensure that the dog rests quietly for several hours after eating, because the most reliable way to prevent bloat.
Less common are cardiac problems including cardiomyopathy and cardiac arrhythmia disorders. There is a dispute, the presence of progressive retinal atrophy in the breed. Condition retinopathy identified Borzoi is seen in some individuals, usually active dogs, which differs from progressive retinal atrophy in several ways. First, it is unilateral, and rare animals under 3 years of age, according to a clear pattern of inheritance has not been demonstrated, and, finally, most people do not become blind.
Borzoi puppies grow rapidly in the strong and elegant sprinters. Good nutrition during puppyhood is also debatable for Borzoi. These dogs naturally grow huge waves of the first year or two of their lives. It is now widely accepted that forcing even faster growth by feeding a highly concentrated, high-energy diet is dangerous for skeletal development, causing inconsistency and increased tendency to common problems and injuries. Being built primarily for speed, Borzoi do not carry large amounts of body fat or muscle, and thus have a rather different physiology to other dogs of similar size (such as Newfoundland, St. Bernard and Alaskan Malamute ). Laboratory formulated diets designed for a generic "large" or "giants" of the breed are unlikely to take the needs of large greyhounds into account.
Raw food issues may be particularly relevant to tall, slender breeds like the Borzoi. And 'interesting to note that Hortaya Borzaya, without a doubt a very close relative, is traditionally grown in the poor diet of oats and table scraps. Hortaya is also said to be intolerant of highly concentrated kibble feeds. In essence, the lean body weight in itself reason to be concerned, and the force-feeding of healthy young Borzoi is definitely not recommended.

Egyptian Tortoise

True Wild Life | Egyptian Tortoise | The Egyptian Tortoise is the smallest land turtle in the Northern Hemisphere. The Egyptian Tortoise is a critically endangered neck-hiding tortoise. Once more widespread, its numbers are now dwindling. The species is extinct in Egypt, and global extinction is a looming threat unless more actions are taken to protect this species. They are on the brink of extinction due of habitat loss and because people capture them to make pets.

The Egyptian tortoises are herbivores, feeding on rough grasses, desert plants and fruit. They are most active during the warm periods of the year and least active during the months when it is very cold or very hot. During the cooler months, the tortoise is most active at midday. In the hot months, it is only active during the early morning or late afternoon and spends the rest of the day hiding in the cover of bushes or in rodent burrows.

Another unfortunate reality is the loss of habitat. Much of what used to be habitat for the Egyptian Tortoises has now become farmland or towns. Moreover, any remaining grassland has become a pasture for domestic livestock where many goats and sheep feed on the vegetation that used to be the tortoises' food. Many countries are cooperating to protect the Egyptian Tortoise, but many still believe their population will continue to drop further.

Ploughshare Tortoise (Angonoka)

True Wild Life | Ploughshare Tortoise (Angonoka) | The Angonoka or Ploughshare tortoise is one of the ten most endangered animals in the world. The Ploughshare Tortoise is a land tortoise that lives only on the island of Madagascar. They are considered the most threatened species of land tortoises because many of them have been captured to keep as pets, and because their habitat has been turned into farmland.

The Ploughshare Tortoise is characterized by a bump that looks like a shoehorn extending from its neck. This is actually part of the tortoises' shell on its stomach. Male tortoises will use this to flip over their opponent in a duel. The Ploughshare Tortoise is the most threatened species of land tortoises. One reason for this is their popularity as pets. Most tortoises retract into their shells to hide and protect themselves from their enemies. However, for hunters interested in selling them as pets, this instinct to hide and remain motionless in their shells at the sense of danger is a convenience because it makes them easier to catch. Many of the Ploughshare Tortoises have been captured to be sold as pets, thus reducing their population.

Environmental change also disturbs life for the Ploughshare Tortoise. Their habitats are disappearing due to frequent field burning in order to make pastures and fields. There has also been the emergence of a natural enemy that eats their eggs and hatchlings -- the bush pig. Originally, people brought the bush pig to the island from the African continent. Now, it has become a wild animal. Efforts to artificially breed and return the Ploughshare Tortoise to the wild are underway. However, this species grows at a very slow rate. it will take years for their numbers to increase because a Ploughshare Tortoise that has been released to the wild takes many years to bear children.

Southern Cassowary

True Wild Life | Southern Cassowary | The Southern Cassowary is a large bird that lives in New Guinea and Australia. They are flightless, but equipped with a strong kick. Their numbers continue to decline because of disappearing tropical rainforests and hunting. The Southern Cassowary also known as Double-wattled Cassowary, Australian Cassowary or Two-wattled Cassowary.

In appearance, the Cassowary looks like a short, heavily-built, black and blue Emu, Dromaius novaehollandiae. Both species are indeed closely related, belonging to the family Casuariidae, and both are flightless. The female Southern Cassowary selects a male to breed with and then lays a clutch of large green eggs in a scrape in the ground lined with plant material. Once the eggs are laid, the male is left in charge of the incubation and chick-rearing duties, while the female moves away, and may even breed again with another male. During the breeding season, the parental males are very aggressive, and attacks on humans have been recorded at this time.

The Southern Cassowary feeds mostly on fruit that has fallen to the ground. The Southern Cassowary will also eat anything from snails to small dead mammals. Southern Cassowaries normally feed alone. If two males should meet, they have a stand off where both birds stand tall, fluff up their feathers and rumble at each other until one retreats. If a male and female meet, the male will move away, as the female is dominant.

In parts of its range the Southern Cassowary is still relatively common, but numbers are decreasing because of habitat clearance and collisions with cars. Their fruit diet means they are commonly sighted in commercial orchards and gardens with fruit bearing trees. Interestingly, citrus fruit is not usually eaten. They can also be dangerous if cornered.

Box Turtle

True Wild Life | Box Turtle | The box turtle or box tortoise is a genus of turtle native to North America. Box turtles are land dwelling creatures with high, domed shells, hence the "box" moniker.  Box turtles are found all over the world, and are generally found living in mossy areas of the forest, or other damp habitats.  They are very territorial, and sometimes spend their entire lives near their place of birth.

North American box turtles are omnivores with a very varied diet as box turtles "basically eat anything it can catch". Invertebrates (amongst others insects, earth worms, millipedes) form the principal component, but the diet also consists for a large part (reports range from 30-90%) of vegetation. The diet is amended with fruits (amongst others from cacti, apples and several species of berry), gastropods. While reports exist that during their first five to six years, box turtles are primarily carnivorous, while adults are mostly herbivorous, there is no scientific basis for such a difference. They are strong, sturdy animals, and usually grow to be about 6 inches long.  Box turtles are usually dark in coloring with some yellowish markings, and the male of the species have bright red eyes, longer tails, and their plastrons are indented.

Box turtles are endemic to North America. The widest distributed species is the common box turtle which is found in the United States (subspecies carolina, major, bauri, triunguis; South-Central, Eastern and South Eastern parts) and Mexico (subspecies yukatana and mexicana; Yucatán peninsula and North Eastern parts). The Ornate box turtle is endemic to the south-central and South Western parts of the U.S.  while the spotted box turtle is endemic to North-Western Mexico only. The coahuilan box turtle is only found in Cuatro Ciénegas Basin.

Electric eel / Electrophorus electricus

Electric eel (Electrophorus electricus)
Is a type of fish that can generate a strong electric current (up to 650 volts) to hunt and defend themselves. Although called the eel or eel, it includes members of the order Gymnotiformes, which does not include both. Electric eels are common in the river Amazon and Orinoco river and surrounding areas.

Body Size
He could grow to 2.5 m long (8.2 feet) and weighing 20 kg (44 pounds), although usually average size is 1 m.
Electric eels unique body shape. Nearly 7 / 8 body parts of the tail. At the tail of the batteries there is little in the form of small plates are horizontal and vertical.

Anatomy of the Electric eel (Electrophorus electricus)
can generate electricity

Biomimetic systems to produce power will be modeled after specialized cells within the electric organ of Electrophorus electricus, shown above. These animals have stacks of specialized electrocytes (electroplax) each heavily laden with ion transporters capable of providing an intermittent discharge of ~150mV and a ~1 pA, resulting in a total power for the organ of ~600W (~600V and ~1A). The electrocyte membrane contains (at a minimum) Na/K pumps, Na channels, K channels, Cl channels, and Ca channels. Dissection of electric eels led AlessandroVolta to experiments with isolated galvanic cells of copper and zinc to form voltaic piles (Volta 1800) – he is credited with inventing the DC battery based on this work. Current understanding of the electrocyte has shown they are specialized cells derived from muscle cells and consist of a membrane packed with ion channels and ion pumps – they have little other function than to generate charge.

There are huge numbers, more than 5,000 pieces. Small electrical voltage of each battery is not great, but if all the batteries are connected in a row (series), will be obtained voltage about 600 volts (compared with batteries that are only 1.5 volts).
Tip of the tail acts as a positive pole of the battery and the head end acts as a negative pole. Electric eels can regulate the relationship between the small battery in the body to get a small electric voltage and large electric voltages.

But when it met the enemy or prey, electric eel will provide a voltage to the maximum extent possible through the head and tail attached to the body of the enemy or prey. About 1 ampere of electrical current generated by high voltage electricity will flow and kill them. Other animals are not disturbed because they are not in direct contact with the tail and head of the eel.

Tweezers

In a previous post I was talking about my favorite tweezers for lampwork. These are large tweezers. I originally purcahsed them in a set of three (shown). One set (the longest ones) I use for moving things around in the kiln - they keep me out of the heat! The shortest ones are grunt work - look at those poor tips. And the third ones have been altered by one of the wonderful glassworkers from Glass Act – The Southeastern Michigan Glass Beadmaker's
Guild. He is a furnace glass and borosilicate worker who makes wonderful goblets and beads.

Mark did this at a retreat we all attended. At first I thought they’d be too big – after all I was taught by Kim Fields to pluck little tiny pieces of glass off my work with miniscule pointed tweezers that looked like you could pull the antennae off a poor bug. Yikes! I still have those little tweezers – and until I began to get the hang of it I burned the ends off of them more than once…it was pitiful. The number of times I had to refile those tips was a disgrace.

It was a big switch to these honkers but I love them. Can I still pluck the hair off a frog? Yes, but I do that with a stringer now days. For just about everything else I use these altered tweezers.

Remember – these had big rounded ends and teeth too. He used a grinder to take them off and to narrow the tips. He made them pointed but what he didn’t do was thin the thickness a whole lot. It gives them power – they don’t bend and if you have the time to alter some for yourself you’ll love them.

Happy Torching!

Beagle Dogs

The Beagle Puppy Pet

The ancestor of the Beagle, the Talbot Hound, may have come to England from Normandy with William the Conqueror in the eleventh century. It could have been crossed with the Harrier and other types of English hounds. The name Beagle may have come from the French word begueule that means “gaped throat,” in reference to the breed's melodious bay; or perhaps is also of Celtic, or old English origin. The word ‘Beagle’ was first used in 1475 but became popular in the 16th century. In the late 19th century the Beagle became regarded as a competitor in various exhibitions. Beagle later became one of America’s all-time favorite dog breeds. The Beagle was actually bred for the hunt, and does it well. Powered by a sense of smell as strong as that of a bloodhound, Beagles tend to follow what is indicated by the smell and ignore everything else. This means obedience training early in life is a must.
Beagle Appearance

The Beagle is a dog that looks like a miniature Foxhound. It is medium-sized, with coarse fur, so it is protected from the brush when hunting. Beagles are very friendly dogs that get along well with humans or other dogs when joining a group of hunters.

Beagle Temperament

The Beagle is one of the most friendly hound-type dogs. The Beagle is a hunting dog who easily establishes friendly relations with both people and other dogs. These dogs like to roam outdoors. Beagle is an independent dog, gentle and wonderful. Baegle dog is a dog who is very energetic and active. Beagle is very vigilant to not show shyness or signs of attack. Beagle can be very mischievous and bold, so precaution is needed when exercise and socialize as well. Beagle dog is a very nice dog in the family, because they are a cheerful dog and can adapt. But Beagle dog likes to bark and howl.
Beagle Grooming

Grooming Beagle dog is very easy because the body does not have body odor. They do need baths more often than other dog breeds. The reason is their keen sense of smell—they roll over anything with a smell they like and wear it as “dog cologne”. The problem is what smells attractive to a dog may not smell nice to a human being. Trust me: you’d be better off with that Chanel Number 5.

Beagle Health

The typical lifetime of Beagles is 10-13 years, which is a long life expectancy for dogs their size. Beagles generally are a healthy breed, but some Beagles can be susceptible to epilepsy, dwarfism (Funny Puppy), and Hip Displasia—a trait it shares with its larger ancestor, the Harrier. They may also ocassionally get diseases of the spine discs. Obesity can afflict older or sedentary Beagles, and so keeping them exercised with moderated feeding is essential. If they feed like people, they will develop diseases similar to people, and that includes arthritis. Because Beagles’ ears are so close to the ground, they can easily get ear infections. Eye infections also sometimes develop as part of their active hunting lifestyle. Sometimes, a Beagle may sound like it’s gasping or choking—“reverse sneezing.” This is not a medical condition and is harmless.

Mermaid Momentum

I thought I'd run a little update. Here is the Mermaid piece with the cab placed loosely in it for a "cab size check". The sprues are now cut off and I can see where I'm going so tomorrow I'll begin the polishing and refining process. Maybe by Monday I'll be able to fit that cab in there perfectly. I'm pretty stoked over the whole thing.

It would look good on a Viking knit chain but since I'm considering this piece for a donation I'm going to stick with the black rubber and silver and add some chain on the back so it's more adjustable.

She's going to need a title. Uh, anyone - ideas please! Maybe Midnight Pond???? I dunno. When I'm playing it "straight" and not yucking it up the ideas are a whole lot tighter than I'd like.

Have a great weekend if you don't get back to see me!

What Day Is It?

I thought things were supposed to slow down when you left your "career". That must go down as one of those urban myths or something.

Wedding Plans...we're working it. Today we hired a wedding "organizer". For a rural area we are getting pretty hip. We give them the details and they make this baby go off like a CIA black operation. Or so I have heard from others and am hoping for our own.

I've also got to update my blog listings - I've a a blog link or two to add too.

In the meantime I've been working on some wax models and came up with a dandy yesterday that we cast. This one is going to hold a half a bead that I lapped down. She's going to be beautiful. I'm thinking she should be given as a bold gift - but word on that later as she is finished.

These are the photos before I started cutting off sprues tonight. I swear the sprues were as heavy as the actualy piece. So far about 90 percent of them are off and tomorrw I'l get to the hardest ones and begin the grinding. I'm currently working on two pieces (the other one that had a fish on it and was a square cab). So far those are the only ones I have created made specially to hold a piece of glass as the design statement. I've done cabs for rings but not something that was purposefully designed to go with the setting.

Border Collie Pet Dogs

Border Collie Dogs

Border Collie: Geniuses of the dog world Originating from Scotland, Border Collies were bred for herding cattle—the cattle-killing instinct of the wolf having been bred out of them, keeping only the urge to keep sheep or cattle in a group (herding instinct). According to Stanley Coren's The Intelligence of Dogs, Border Collies are at the top of dog intelligence. This intelligent tendency has been featured in the movie Babe (1995). The Border Collie’s intelligence, boundless energy and irresistible urge to keep a herd of small animals (and children) together, make Border Collies unsuitable as pets for families with small children, small dogs, and cats—the temperament of Border Collies and small animals collide. Border Collies will develop neurotic habits when put in a place where they cannot run around freely or where they get easily bored. Border Collies are not for couch potatoes. When paired with the right owner, Border Collies aim to please, but keep their distance from strangers—a trait which makes them good shepherd dogs. The Border Collie’s natural intelligence, remarkable intuition, and strong urge to track and bring stragglers back to the fold make the Border Collie a suitable dog for Search and Rescue (SAR) operations. These dogs are typically known as black over white, leaving the white on the collar, chest, parts of the head where the black parts don’t meet, paws, and the tip of the tail. Border Collies can also be red over white, black & red on white (tricolor), merle (blue and red), black & tan, brindle, and black.
